The challenge

Carnaby Street was committed to upholding its reputation for showcasing London's most impressive Christmas lights, while remaining environmentally conscious.

Their vision was to deliver a captivating display that would entice visitors and embody the unique energy of the district, all without sacrificing sustainability.

The solution

Creative powerhouse and wonder engineers Sculptivate approached Fitzroy Hawk to design and animate a unique lighting scheme for Carnaby Street at Christmas. Called "Into the Light," this breathtaking installation features 60,000 energy-efficient LED lights meticulously crafted into six-meter sculptural forms suspended above the bustling pedestrian street. 

To bring this ambitious project to life on such a grand scale, the team employed a unique combination of tools. Houdini, C4D, TouchDesigner, and Unreal Engine were all used to design, animate, previsualize and deliver a truly immersive experience.

The result

With "Into the Light," Carnaby Street once again solidified its position as a must-visit Christmas destination. The result is spectacular, enveloping visitors in a golden glow and festive atmosphere. Importantly, the design incorporates adaptable technology, allowing the lights to be re-used and reconfigured. This ensures both sustainability and the ability to unveil a fresh and exciting display each Christmas.
